Community Initiative Coordinator, Holy Chea, is an essential part of the Community Foundation team and has only worked here for about a year and a half. Holy primarily oversee the Community Foundation’s youth work including the Youth Philanthropy Board, which gives young people a voice in the funding decisions that affect them; and, the Youth Program Quality Initiative a professional development and technical assistance program for out-of school youth programs. He is also involved in many youth focused coalitions and has been very active in the City of Tacoma Gang Assessment. Holy was drawn to The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation because its mission strongly resonated with his own values and beliefs. He enjoys what the Community Foundation stands for and believes long-term impact can be achieved through philanthropy. The Community Foundation work is important to him because he truly believes that change starts with people who care about the community and take responsibility for helping their friends, family and neighbors.
In the next couple of months, he will be working closely with the Youth Philanthropy Board. His hope is to equip each of the young people with the tools needed to be effective philanthropists and that they will recognize the impact they are making in Pierce County.
In addition to working at The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation, Holy is an active member of the City of Tacoma’s Human Services Commission. He is working both on and off the clock to make his community a better place.
One little known fact about Holy: He did the polar bear plunge in Barrel, Alaska (most northern part of the US) in the Arctic Ocean!
Stay tuned for our next staff spotlight.
