Foundation of Art Award

In 2008, the Community Foundation established the Foundation of Art Award to recognize the essential role art and culture have in building a vibrant community and to honor professional artists living and working in the region.

Each year, more than a dozen artists are nominated and one is selected for this significant award. The winning artist receives a $7,500 award to create a commissioned art piece for the Community Foundation representing their interpretation of the Pierce County community.

2011 Award Winner

Congratulations to Jessica Spring, our 2011 Foundation of Art winner! Jessica created a unique piece commissioned for the Community Foundation titled Ingrained. The piece incorporates a cedar shingle sales kit found on Antique Row in Tacoma, with handmade paper and eloquent text that Jessica wrote.

"I hope the community will have a “wow” moment, a chance to appreciate what we have here. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to make work that the Community Foundation will share with our community—it’s really an honor," shares Jessica.
