ACT 1 Theatre (aka Ascension Theatre) is a non-profit, multi-generational theatre offering an arts performance and education program. We offer a role for every member of the community whether you are young or old, want to work from center stage or behind the scenes.
ACT 1 partners with the Sumner Community Food Bank by providing costumed actors such as the Rhubarbarians to increase awareness or donation drives and also by collecting food at its productions.
ACT 1 organizes a free Christmas caroling event each year and works with other community organizations to offer actors, dancers, singers, lighting, sound or staging for events.
As a non-profit, we work with the City of Sumner to create an entry and related entertainment for the Daffodil Festival Parade whose annual itinerary each April celebrates the agricultural heritage of four cities spanning central and eastern Pierce County.
The troupe volunteers with drama departments at both high schools in the Sumner School District and at local elementary schools to provide creative theatre experiences in their classrooms.
ACT 1 also offers its studio at no cost to high-school students working on a theatre production for their senior projects, allowing the students to rehearse and perform in our theatre space.
