The Zimfest Association mission is to produce North America’s premier annual festival of Zimbabwean music, bringing a global community together to celebrate Zimbabwe’s participatory musical traditions through high-quality workshops and performances.
The Zimfest Association produces the Zimbabwean Music Festival, an annual celebration of music and culture. Zimfest has expanded in scope from its initial 1991 emphasis on the inspiring musical legacy of the late Dr. Dumisani Maraire to encompass a broad perspective on cultural education and diverse aspects of Zimbabwean performing arts.
In the course of three days each summer, up to 500 participants choose from 100 participatory workshops on Zimbabwean music and culture. Many of the festival’s 30+ hours of concerts are free to the public. Zimfest aims to contribute to sustainable livelihoods for Zimbabwean teachers and performers while giving people from different traditions the opportunity to connect through music.
