Tacoma Historical Society: Dreams & Dispossession Exhibit Opening

January 27, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us for the Exhibit Opening of Dreams & Dispossession: The Railway Comes to Tacoma with special keynote speaker Ethelda Burk.
The Tacoma we know today was shaped by its origins as a railway terminus for the Northern Pacific Railway. The railroad brought new people, new industries, new opportunities, and new conflicts into the area. For good or ill, this event changed the lives of everyone living along Commencement Bay.
Dreams & Dispossession explores the stories of the individuals who were directly effected by these changes.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. for viewing. At 6:30 p.m., Ethelda Burke will speak on the experiences of her father, Edwin Dorsey, as an African-American railroad porter in the 1940s.
Seating is limited. Event is free or by donation at the door; please RSVP at Eventbrite. Refreshments will be provided.
