Fund for Women & Girls Update: 2016-17 Roadmap

Back in May we shared a blog post about women’s economic opportunities in Pierce County. In that post we highlighted that closing the gender wage gap could have broad and positive implications for our entire region and state. In fact, if women received equal pay their increased earnings would amount to $11.2 billion annually which means we’d all experience a 3% boost to our GDP. That means that in Washington State working women could see $7,000 a year more in her paycheck.

We discovered that if we continue
business as usual, women will achieve wage equality in 2071. That means all of the young girls attending kindergarten in Pierce County schools will retire from their jobs without seeing gender equity.  We believe we can and must do better as a community, which is why we are spending this next year exploring new ways we can have a greater impact on women’s economic opportunities.

We’re five months into our research and analysis and we are excited to share what we’ve learned. Our first report will be ready at the end of September. In the meantime, check out our roadmap for the next 12 months so that you can see where we’re going and how you can influence how we get there.
