Tacoma Tree Foundation: “An Apparently Unwieldy Piece of Nature” The Story of Wright Park’s Development

November 1, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

Tacoma Tree Foundation invites you to King’s Books November 1st from 12-1pm to learn the story of  Wright Park’s development. The development of this city park shaped the city in many ways, and historian Melissa McGinnis will join us to teach how this “unwieldy piece of nature” was transformed into an oasis of natural yet artfully planned beauty in the heart of Tacoma.

Melissa McGinnis background includes working as a historian for Metro Parks Tacoma where she had the honor and pleasure of researching and writing about the fascinating history of Tacoma’s parks.

The iconic Wright’s Park was once thought of as an “unwieldy piece of nature” and posed a challenge to landscape designers. It is hard to picture that since now it is a haven that offers a respite from the busy traffic and concrete sidewalks to all who walk by.

This event is possible thanks to Tacoma Creates. We are grateful to our hosts at King’s Books.
